Girls Basketball's Top-10 (As of 1/24/05)

Jan 27, 2005

About Gene
1. CTK, NY (15-0)

Bishop Loughlin and Mary Louis were the victims this week. The Lady Royals will have a good test Saturday against D.C. power Theodore Roosevelt at Archbishop Carroll High School in Philly. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

2. FRANCIS LEWIS, NY (17-1)

The Lady Patriots won two PSAL games this week, including a 63-45 trouncing of August Martin. Senior Dawn Coleman produced a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and 6-foot-4 senior center Jessica Fuller tossed in 17 points and ripped down seven boards in the lopsided win.

3. ST. MICHAEL'S, NY (11-4)

The Manhattan school's game against No. 8 St. John the Baptist was postponed because of the snow. It will be played Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at JFK High School in the Bronx.

4. BERGTRAUM, NY (18-2)

Epiphany Prince is back! She's decided to grace us with her presence again after a two-game absence. Her squad outscored their three opponents this week, 228-65.

5. HOLY TRINITY, NY (13-1)

The Long Island school came away with an impressive 67-44 win over Molloy this week. Junior Lauren Costello turned in a career performance with 27 points, including six three-pointers.

6. IMMACULATE HEART ACADEMY, NJ (12-0)

The best team in the Garden State overwhelmed Paramus Catholic Tuesday, beating their Bergen County rival, 69-37. UConn-bound Tahirah Williams scored 25 points in the win.

7. SHABAZZ, NJ (9-2)

The Lady Bulldogs are the favorites to win their third consecutive Essex County crown.

8. ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, NY (14-3)

Ted Oberg's squad avenged an early season loss to Kellenberg this week when they punished their rival by 28 points, 69-41. Junior center Danielle Wilson was as steady as ever, scoring 28 points in the contest. Speaking of Wilson, tune into MaxPreps High School Weekly Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. to see what her game is all about. I put together a little feature about the 6-foot-3 standout.

9. MT. VERNON, NY (14-0)

Ah yes, Mike Quick has found his favorite girl's team. The guru watched the Lady Knights destroy Ursuline over the snowy weekend, 71-34. He thinks this team will be facing No. 1 CK in Glens Falls. Do you hear that Ed Grezinsky of Bergtraum and Mike Eisenberg of Francis Lewis? Quick's prediction is in. Mt. Vernon is the team to beat in the Class AA playoffs. I can't blame him for making his bold statement after I watched the highlights of this team dismantle a great program in Ursuline Academy. By the way, you can see these highlights on this week's show.

10. TRUMBULL, CT (11-1)

The lone Connecticut representative continues to roll over their foes. Norwalk felt the wrath of the Coombs sisters this week in Trumbull's 56-39 win. Two-thirds of a triplets combination, Lauren and Heather, combined for 38 points against the Lady Bears.
